Treated Area: Lower Back
Bursal trigger point injections target the bursae, which are small, fluid-filled sacs located throughout the body that act as cushions between bones and soft tissues (muscles, tendons, and skin) to reduce friction. These injections are used to alleviate pain and inflammation in the bursae, commonly caused by bursitis” inflammation of the bursa. Bursitis often results from repetitive movements or pressure on the bursae over time and can cause significant pain and discomfort.
Indications
Bursal Injections are recommended for patients who have:
- Shoulder Pain: Treats bursitis caused by activities involving overhead motion, like painting or playing tennis.
- Hip Pain: Addresses pain on the outer side of the hip, often aggravated by lying on the affected side.
- Elbow Pain: Commonly known as “student’s elbow” or “miner’s elbow,” resulting from prolonged pressure on the elbow.
- Knee Pain: Pain from from prolonged kneeling.
- Ankle Pain: Typically affects athletes or individuals with footwear that puts pressure on the back of the heel.
